Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki face off in Barbados this weekend

Tennis royalty is coming to Barbados this weekend. Lovers of the game are gearing up for the much anticipated invitational tournament, ‘Tennis Pon De Rock”, in Barbados, which takes place from November 28 to 29, and features Women’s World No. 1 Serena Williams and Women’s World No. 5 Caroline Wozniacki who face each other at the Wildey Gymnasium. Action kicks off at 5 p.m on Saturday. According to the Barbados Advocate: “The first day of the event (28th), will see both players going at it head to head in an exhibition match at the Wildey Gymnasium. The exhibition on the 28th, with seating available for just 4 000 spectators, will also feature Barbados’ No.1 ranked senior player in Haydn Lewis, as well as Darian King, Barbados’ top ranked junior. A special hard-court, similar to the one used at the US Open, will be fitted to the Gym floor for the exhibition matches. “The second day (29th) of the event, will be held at the picturesque Sugar Hill development and will feature Serena and Caroline in a more intimate setting. It will provide an all-inclusive relaxed atmosphere where spectators will never be more than a few feet away from the players. Again the two players will be facing off against each other but it will mainly be a mixed-doubles event with crowd participation high on the agenda.” Some of the island’s young players will also get the chance to show off their skills. “Tennis Pon De Rock” is being promoted by the Barbados Invitational Tennis Exhibition (B.I.T.E) in an effort to raise much-needed funds for several local charities and individual persons.
