The Viceroy: An Ultimate Getaway

You don’t know Anguilla without knowing The Viceroy!

Dreamweaver designer Kelly Wearstler is fierce about style — an entrance of undulating potted cacti and other succulents, tree trunk seating, and planter beds of grey/white seashell “mulch”.

Certainly, The Viceroy has perfected the art of “tone-on-tone-with-a-pop-of-color”,  with a palette of sunbaked driftwood, seashells, hammered silver and mahogany that looks like its been around forever. Whereas “get-together” spaces are massive (the uber-hip Sunset Lounge yields sumptuous views of ocean and sky under a 2-storey-high ceiling), the villas and rooms are intimate privés.  Signature 4-poster beds and sunburst mirrors are modern with crisp edges and clean lines, while exotic Turkish-patterned screens, and the like, exude warmth from floor to fixture.  There’s personally stocked kitchens, chef and butler service upon request and silver’d water dispensers flavored with the day’s fruit.  It’s all quite elegant.

Cabanas and outdoor showers on private sun-warmed patios are par for the course…as are various pools for plunging, “spa-ing” or swimming.

The hotel’s two main pools permit both a grown-up and a kid-friendly Viceroy experience. While grown-ups dip into a chic lounge infinity version, the “kiddy pool” is a sizable square, punctuated by a grid of single-palm-tree oases rising out of the pool’s water.

Viceroy is replete with designer amenities such as a fitness centre, a putting green, a rock-climbing wall, tennis courts, volleyball courts and NBA-regulation basketball courts. There is also off-property access to horseback riding, sailing and golf.  For some rest and relaxation, the spa offers a “Black Lava” exfoliation, and a Diamond Dust treatment to balance the chakras and combat stress and electromagnetic pollution!

Five restaurants keep taste-buds tingling for steakhouse, café, Asia-inspired, or Middle Eastern zest.  Hands down, the Sunset Lounge is choice – a sexy knockout for cocktails, backgammon, and “kick-back” time.

Even before the ocean comes into view, the Viceroy knocks you out of your socks and into sequined flip flops and stylish slides – but the Viceroy is best enjoyed bare footed!
