Calypso Grill is a classy, quintessentially Caribbean restaurant, right on the water beside a working dock where fishermen and yachts come in.
But that’s not all.
It’s appeal is also the warmth that the restaurant exudes, the French doors and shutters and the cool breezes. The colors are Caribbean, combining purples, pinks, blues and reds. Although the interior of the restaurant is lovely, the outside deck is the most popular spot, even if a little crowded on weekends. The service is superb and your waiter will get you comfy with drinks and irresistible freshly baked bread before bringing over a blackboard with the day’s offerings.
It’s a hearty menu with lots of fresh fish dishes, including the catch of the day which is landed right outside the restaurant. It can’t get much better than lobster and shrimp champagne which melts in the mouth, or the rack of lamb which is cooked in a tomato butter sauce with sautéed arugula.
But it’s as much about the ambiance, though, with the stars overhead and water lapping gently at the deck, while couples, families and friends chatter loudly at the closely packed tables.
- For a brilliant experience, book a table on the outside deck on a full moon night
- Try Calypso Grill’s famous sticky toffee pudding’it’s divine
- Lunchtimes are less crowded and the menu is excellent value.
