When Janetta Noel moved to Grenada with her Grenadian-born husband she was blown-away by the sheer natural beauty of the island. Especially fascinating was the abundance of colourful seeds to be found in the forested areas inland and the exquisite water-worn bits of sea glass washed up on the beaches.
Always interested in craftwork, Janetta set to work to create one-of-a kind pieces of jewelry using natural resources from the bounty of nature and the flotsam and jetsam of the sea.
Today, under the label of Mama Bois, she produces her best-selling three-strand ‘coral seed’ necklaces and bracelets as well as distinctive blue and green sea glass ‘sculpture’ pendants and chunky nugget bracelets.
“The blues and greens are inspired by the sea and the reds and oranges by the sunsets”, Janetta explains.
The latest addition to her line of handmade jewelry is a cuff bracelet made of delicate ‘crochet’ silver mesh adorned with signature pieces of sea glass. No two pieces are alike. Each one makes a statement.
Smooth brown seeds from the shak-shak pods of the Flamboyant tree, intriguing ‘donkey eyes’ which wash-up on the beach and white grass seeds also known as ‘liver beads’, also form part of the Mama Bois line.

Her creations are also on display at the Baobab Boutique in the Spiceland Mall; Art Fabrik Boutique on Young Street in St Georges and the Art & Craft Co-op at Belmont Estate.
