Montpelier Plantation and Beach Inn

As they walk through the stone entry at Montpelier Plantation, guests will find travel fatigue fading as doves coo and the breezes rise up the mountain.

Princess Diana’s room is number 15. The room was designed with royal comfort in mind: large windows reflecting the sea and gardens, rich wood flooring, a well-appointed bathroom, and crisp white linens on a mahogany four-poster bed. This is where Diana chose to holiday with her sons in 1993.

Montpelier offers the warmth of staying with friends, in a meticulously restored 1800s plantation inn. The Hoffman family has owned the hotel since 2002, and added their tasteful design sensibilities to the décor and gardens. With just 19 rooms on 60 acres of land, this haven guarantees privacy and peace.

The pool and bar area suggest spending the day with a good book, but for more activity, there is Montpelier’s private Beach Club. A shuttle van drives guests down in the morning, and brings them back as they desire.  The beach has six cabanas and a lounging pavilion with bar. Picnic lunches can be prepared and sent down, so moving from pool lounge to ocean lounge is stress-free.

Montpelier’s chefs create five-star menus from breakfast to dinner. House-made chutneys, lemon curd, and fresh breads flow from the kitchen at all hours. Try the coconut buns for breakfast, with grated fresh coconut tucked under yeasty pastry. Fully cooked breakfast and afternoon tea are included in the room rate.

For a special, romantic experience, reserve a dinner table in The Mill which is lit with torches and candles. Step back 300 years as a three-course meal is served, along with wines from an extensive list. Be the lord and lady of your manor.

  • Reserve the environmentally green Garden Suite with private garden gazebo and Nespresso machine for a romantic hideout.
  • Elemis skin and hair products (big bottles) are in the bathrooms.
  • The Hoffman family hosts cocktails and canapés après dinner most evenings. They will charm with anecdotes and the history of Nevis island life.
  • With two executive chefs at your service, you’ll be thrilled by food that entertains through presentation and nourishes through careful selection of organic produce. Chef Paolo Sari and Chef Benjamin Voisin welcome you!
