Nisbet Plantation Beach Club

Historic plantation inns provide a good portion of charm on Nevis, but nowhere else in the Caribbean is one situated in the sand. Located on 30 acres with a half-mile of beach, Nisbet Plantation Beach Club offers a taste of history and the casual feel of a beach club.

With a great house dating from the late 1700s, Nisbet was originally settled as a sugar plantation, later changing the crop to coconuts. Today coconut palms still form a graceful green alley from the great house to the beach, and along the shore.

Accommodations include 36 gracious rooms and suites staggered along the lawn, most with sea views. Room rates include a full breakfast, as well as afternoon tea and dinner. Breakfast is served at Coconuts on the beach.  Linger here over morning johnny cakes and coffee before deciding, pool or beach’ Tennis or croquet’

Lunch is served at Sea Breeze beach bar. Dig your toes in sand and enjoy a lobster sandwich with cold Carib beer. Hammocks are nearby, tied in the palms for afternoon siesta.

Or book an afternoon in the award-winning Palms Spa. The Island Breeze Massage starts with a dry brushing of the entire body to exfoliate, followed by a full-body rubdown and warm coconut oil scalp massage.

Elegant dinners are served in the historic great house overlooking the lawns and sea; soft candlelight accents the locally inspired cuisine. This house is where Admiral Horatio Nelson met the original owner’s daughter Fanny Nisbet, marrying her under a fig tree and whisking her back to England as Lady Nelson.

Weddings are special here. Experienced staff takes care of all stressful prenuptial arrangements. Newlyweds are free to relish their wedding day, and then they are given a coconut palm planted in their honor, making return visits more memorable. Even Horatio and Fanny wedded under a tree.

  • Gone are the days of Caribbean dinners demanding jackets for men. Smart casual attire for everyone (collared shirts and slacks for men) is de rigueur in the evenings.
  • Romance is a big draw at Nisbet, but families are welcome too. Children under the age of eight are asked to dine at 6 p.m. (babysitters can be arranged), leaving evenings calm for adults.
  • Nisbet Plantation also offers a Girlfriend Getaway package. Spend downtime at the spa with your BFF, as well as organized sailing and shopping excursions in the sunny Caribbean.
