Peche Patisserie

A little bit of France is alive and kicking on a quiet street in Port of Spain. Housed in a small building with a white gingerbread-type awning and shutters, Pêche Pâtisserie, Port of Spain has quickly become one of Newtown’s hottest lunch spots.

If you’re looking for a quiet place to munch on a flaky croissant or enjoy a gourmet salad, then Pêche Pâtisserie hits the spot. Launched in 2011, Chef Khalil Ali opened a café-styled restaurant to marry with his thriving home-based boulangerie. Catering to a breakfast and lunch crowd with a discerning palate, Pêche opens its doors to hungry patrons wishing to waylay their morning routine by way of downtown Paris. Chef Ali’s signature granite and wood touches are evident, as well as the paintings that came from Paris as a gift.

Indulge in the customer favourite Eggs Norwegian, or be adventurous and try the Chipotle Egg Salad sandwich. Other lunch favourites include a flavourful Tandoori Chicken Salad drizzled with a black pepper vinaigrette. Pêche Pâtisserie also stocks an array of freshly baked goodies, and gladly, the amazing croissants and foccacia breads are there. Whew!

Chef Ali’s loyal customers can also satiate their sweet cravings as the signature Gateaux Opera,
Baba au 1919 Rhum, and Pave du Roy can also be purchased at the Port of Spain branch.

Not many café’s in Trinidad can boast of incorporating highly skilled artisan bread making, but Pêche Pâtisserie, manages to combine local charm with European sensibilities. Never mind Chef Ali’s often playfully roguish banter, he’s as passionate about his food as he is about maintaining a professional level of service to his customers.

Definitely one of my favourite spots, Pêche Pâtisserie will keep you coming back for more. Just don’t expect Chef Ali to pick up your gym tab!

  • The breads and pastries are baked fresh daily, so go in early before they sell out. Placing orders beforehand is your best bet.
  • Free WiFi – whoo hoo!
  • Customer parking at the front of the building. Additional parking is located just after the First Citizens Bank parking lot.
  • If in doubt, call ahead and order in advance. Chef Ali never stocks anything for too long to ensure freshness.
