Soong’s Great Wall

Mr. Soong’s passion for cooking authentic Chinese cuisine culminated in Soong’s Great Wall restaurant, which opened its doors on Sept. 8th 1981. Soong’s Great Wall is nestled at the base of San Fernando Hill, hidden behind a’ well, great wall!  The Chinese style front garden, complete with marble dragons and Koi fishpond sets the mood for scrumptious, authentic Chinese cuisine. The décor lends itself to an oriental stately home; whether you are seated in the main dining room or tucked away behind the patterned screens and huge oriental pots, you feel distinctly welcomed.

Service is excellent.  Most of the staff have been there for years, and are more than willing to recommend their favorite dishes. From personal experience, we can highly recommend the Sweet and Savory Sesame Shrimp; a crispy explosion of flavour in a delicious cream sauce, complemented with crunchy cashews and sesame seeds.  The Roast Pork with its crunchy skin is a must- have, and the Great Wall Chicken with its chilies and pimentos delivers a spicy kick.  Another favorite is the Sizzling Beef Tenderloin that comes hot and spitting, to your table.  But the pièce de résistance is the Phoenix Basket, an artfully woven noodle basket brimming with tangy seasoned mixed veggies and succulent seafood.

The menu is a perfect mix of Cantonese, Szechuan, Hakka and local dishes with a Chinese flair to please every palate. Wednesday night buffets are the perfect time to sample everything on the menu.

Maurice and his lovely wife Brenda Soong are always circulating the dining room chatting with customers and enquiring on their meals. They are like the Chinese grandparents you never had, all big smiles and ensuring that your dining experience exceeds your expectations. This family friendly atmosphere complete with fantastic food attracts people from all walks of life. You can say that the proof is in the patronage as Great Wall is one of the Chinese Ambassador’s restaurants of choice. While you are there look out for the President, Prime Minister and scores of politicians and local celebs who have an unbreakable loyalty to this cān tÄ«ng (Mandarin word for restaurant).
