As befits its Hyatt pedigree, Spa Esencia is luxurious, lovely and private. Most of the treatments use indigenous ingredients and are named after the island’s spectacular Carnival. Tropical treats such as cocoa, coconut oil, sugar cane, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon are all on the menu. The Dimanche Gras massage (in honor of the national calypso monarch and costume show) will leave even massage connoisseurs in a blissful daze. It combines aromatherapy, warm stone, Swedish and deep tissue massage. The mineral mud mas body wrap uses active marine elements to detox and rejuvenate jet-lagged overworked souls.
Spa Esencia is also the only spa in the Caribbean that offers the Intraceuticals Infusion Treatment, which celebrities including Madonna and Justin Timberlake swear by. The most sought-after facials infuse oxygen with special serums into the upper layers of the skin to make plumper, radiant and glowing.
You’ll have a tough time choosing from among the 10 different body treatments, 15 massages and nine types of facial. The best bet is a package that allows you to sample a variety, and spend a glorious day being pampered like a baby.
Salon services include mani-pedis, make-up and waxing. There’s also the fully equipped Stay Fit gym across the hall and easy access to the hotel’s rooftop infinity edge pool and restaurant, which overlook the port and all the action downtown. Be sure to pack your swimming gear just in case you’re tempted to take a dip in the pool, since all treatments at Spa Esencia allow guest access to the gym and the pool deck for the day.
- Get to the spa early as they serve delicious herbal teas prior to treatments
- Unless you wish to walk out of the spa with a ’60s bouffant, we suggest you walk with a hairbrush.
- Don’t forget to take your room key as this is the only way to work the elevator
- If you wish to book your treatments on a weekend, book early as the spa is usually very busy then.
